If you are the type of traveler who mostly makes long weekend trips, then this is the RCI membership program ideal for you. When talking to your home resort about your timeshare exchange company affiliation, ask them if you’d be an RCI Weeks Member or an RCI Points member. While these two RCI Memberships are similar, some differences exist, and some owners are only eligible for one type of membership. For example, we are RCI Weeks members and didn’t have a choice in the matter. Also, not all timeshare ownerships qualify for an RCI membership.
RCI is a vacation exchange company created for timeshare owners to get the most out of their timeshare interests. With an RCI membership, owners can deposit and exchange their timeshare points or weeks to stay at other resorts in the network. If you are interested in all of the perks and benefits of RCI, you must own a timeshare with an affiliated RCI resort.
RCI® Weeks Membership
If you know that your timeshare ownership week is at an RCI-affiliated resort, you can easily start a membership on their website. If you’re unsure, contact your developer or RCI directly to confirm. Once you’ve registered, deposit your weeks, and then begin exploring what amazing vacations await you! What has been the biggest benefit of using a vacation exchange program? Once you own, you can sign up for an RCI membership and start trading right away. Once your vacation time is deposited, it is assigned a Deposit Trading Power.

Just like the all-inclusive resorts 99% of the time, it is not a good use of RCI. The best use of an RCI membership and your trading current points is to book “regular” resorts. That is where the real value is in timesharing and timeshare exchanging. Just to be clear – You don’t need to be an RCI Platinum Member to make an ongoing search request; you just have to pay your exchange fee upfront. You may start to get a sense why, when you search for certain RCI resorts in the inventory, it’s not there.
Of course, there is no reason to rush buying a timeshare, as it is a buyer’s market. For example, if you wanted to take a weekend getaway and then use your remaining days elsewhere a few months later, you hypothetically could. I tried to do this type of search, but because I don’t own this particular type of timeshare, I could not search the inventory this way. With Interval, if you own a lower-tiered timeshare, you won’t see the most high-end exchanges, like Disney Vacation Club resorts for example. When you trade, you can select a week with the same point value. Alternatively, if you choose a week with a lower point value than yours, the leftover points will become a credit for you to use for a different trade. The earlier in the year you deposit, the higher the trading power value will be. All tradable units in RCI’s inventory are given a point value, known as Exchange Trading Power. That value will be the “currency” that you will use to exchange for a week at another property. Resorts Condominiums International launched in 1974 and introduced a new way for owners to get the most out of their timeshare.
But don’t feel too bad, because the conversion and value you got for your points were really poor anyway. But getting back to RCI, there are three, and only three, tiers of resorts. If a salesperson is telling you that there is a list of RCI Platinum resorts, they are wrong.
Deposit your week as earliest as possible with RCI and choose from the available weeks that other members have deposited to make your exchange. If, while browsing the RCI network, you come across a resort you like, but don’t have enough points for, don’t fret! I think it is well worth the cost if you can swing the extra $124 a year. If you want to stay in a super premium resort, you’ll need to combine weeks, like we did when we stayed at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort in Orlando over Spring Break . Some smaller units or non-peak travel time weeks will get fewer TPUs.
You should deposit as early as possible - up to 2 years in advance of the check-in date of the week you own. As long as you deposit at least 9 months in advance of your Weeks check-in date; you'll receive the maximum Deposit Trading Power for your vacation time. Unlock high-demand favorite destinations during peak travel seasons. If you trade your week for another week with a lower trading power value your left over trading power is returned to you as a Deposit Credit that you can use towards a second vacation.
The RCI Exchange fee is required in order to exchange your ownership on the network. In addition to your yearly membership, you must pay an exchange fee. The exchange fee now varies depending on if you have a points or weeks membership. An RCI Platinum membership allows owners access to great vacation perks, including exclusive sales and savings and priority booking.
